The Greenwood Bears

The Bears:

The Greenwood Bears are five highly individual bears whose stories are recorded in the wonderfully illustrated story books produced by Greenwood Publishing. They are small, brown and furry, ... and all live together in the secret, dusty corners of old Mr Moore's house.  What they do, where they live and how they spend their time together is recorded in the first of a series of classic tales.

Albert, Bertie, Edward, Lucy and Frederick each have their own special place to sleep, which is just as well because they love sleeping. When they're awake they are sparkly-eyed, witty and playful but it's best to remember that a tired bear is a very grumpy bear!
 
Recycling comes naturally to the Greenwood Bears and they are always on the lookout for useful things to "snaffle", like cotton, candles, fabric, wire and boot laces. They're very good at making what they need from "snaffled" bits and pieces.
 
The Greenwood Bears' survival depends upon constantly remembering two golden rules...

Edward's Story:

Edward is the star of the first story book in the Greenwood Bears series. "Edward's Story" is a classic, beautifully illustrated gem with a distinctly old-fashioned flavour. With 96 pages filled with gentle humour it looks set to become the new bear classic.

The Publishers:

The Greenwood Bears story books are the creation of Lauren and Michael Barnicott-White who run Greenwood Publishing from their home in the UK. They believe in supporting other small companies, so use local printers and binders to help create their beautifully illustrated, engaging books that will become firm favourites. Combining fun stories and great illustrations with sound eco-principles, they are bringing a touch of green to the Teddy bear world.
 
Lauren and Michael were teenage sweethearts whose creative partnership spans more than 15 years. Over this time their work has encompassed writing, designing, illustrating and green oak carving.

With the formation of Greenwood Publishing they have combined their talents to create beautiful and lasting story books. "The Greenwood Bears" series celebrates simple pleasures and is brought beautifully to life by Lauren's engaging illustrations.

The Books:

Not only are these traditional hardback story books, with dust jacket and pull out map, made here in England, they are also printed on thick chlorine-free paper, specially chosen to feel soft to the touch and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Printed close to their home using eco-friendly vegetable inks (which produce negligible levels of Volatile Organic Compounds for a small carbon pawprint) and stitched and bound in time-honoured fashion, these robust books will last for years. At just 150mm wide and 135mm high (6"x 5½") they're a really nice size to handle and just about small enough to slip into your pocket.

Tucked inside the back cover of every book hides a large-scale fold out map of Greenwood house and garden. Once unfolded, this huge detailed plan shows the rooms in the house and the areas of the garden where the Bears live.
